On the occasion of Africa Day, the programme Somos Cooperación on Radio Nacional de España has aired both the progress and the challenges faced by a continent abundant in natural resources, but hit by high levels of poverty, hunger and climate vulnerability, despite having the youngest population on the planet, according to the station's website. Spain, which has been strengthening its commitment to Africa for more than 25 years, already has 26 permanent cooperation offices and has allocated more than 3 billion euros in the last decade to support initiatives both bilaterally and through regional organisations such as the African Union and ECOWAS, according to Ximena Sartori, AECID's deputy director for Sub-Saharan Africa. In this context, the Radio Nacional programme highlighted the impact of Spanish cooperation in three strategic enclaves: Cape Verde, where Estibaliz Taboas works with Paz y Desarrollo; the Somali region of Ethiopia, together with Antonio Peña of Rescate; and Mozambique, with the technician Mónica Pereira.
