In a continent marked by labour informality, structural challenges and a youth crying out for opportunities, Akhator Joel Odigie takes a key role in driving a transformative trade union agenda. Since his election as ITUC-Africa general secretary in November 2023, he is determinedly leading an organisation that represents more than 17 million workers in 52 countries, defending decent work and social justice in one of the most complex contexts in the world.
