Business start-ups in Senegal grew by 5.3 % during the first quarter of 2025 compared to the last three months of the previous year, according to data released by the National Agency for Statistics and Demography (ANSD). In total, more than 28,400 new economic units were registered in the country during that period.

Individual entrepreneurship continues to dominate the Senegalese business landscape, accounting for 70.7 % of new registrations. It is followed by legal entities (14.3 %), landowners (8.5 %), occasional operators (6.2 %) and Economic Interest Groups (EIGs).

By sector, commerce remains the main driver of entrepreneurship, accounting for 64.7 % of the registrations of self-employed workers. This trend confirms the strong presence of small commerce as the basis of the national economic fabric.
