The arrival of the rains is favouring the agricultural season in the Sédhiou region of Senegal.
The arrival of the rains is favouring the agricultural season in the Sédhiou region of Senegal.

With the gradual arrival of the rains, the Senegalese region of Sédhiou has reactivated the agricultural campaign, especially in the department of Bounkiling, where more than 50 % of essential inputs such as rice, maize, peanuts and fertilisers have already been distributed. The authorities note a positive start, despite some logistical delays, and have set up eight sales outlets to facilitate access to agricultural materials.

However, in rural localities such as Bogal, farmers report severe shortages of fertilisers and urea, as well as unaffordable prices for hybrid maize seeds. Farmers such as Thierno Fall and Amadou Diao are calling on the government to intervene urgently to ensure an equitable supply of inputs and prevent the agricultural season, which is key to the region's food security, from being severely affected.
