The Senegalese writer and academic Fayi Bayo has been awarded Casa África's 2025 Essay Prize for his work El laberinto decolonial (The Decolonial Labyrinth). The jury recognised the critical value and depth of the analysis of African contributions to the paradigms of decolonisation.
The text examines the intellectual traditions that have defined postcolonial and decolonial debates, warning of the risks of simplification in their application to current challenges. Bayo offers a fresh look that seeks to open up a dialogue between different academic currents.
The organisation promoting the award expressed its congratulations and its desire to continue collaborating with the researcher in future projects. It also highlighted the relevance of his work for understanding the contemporary dynamics of decolonisation in the global sphere.
