Tatiana Dovgalenko, Director of the Department for Partnership with Africa at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The creation of the Russian Foreign Ministry's Partnership with Africa Department reflects the continent's growing weight in Russian foreign policy. The new division coordinates multilateral and bilateral projects, fostering ties with the African Union, regional organisations and emerging alliances such as the Confederation of Sahel States.

The agenda includes trade and investment development. In 2024, trade reached $27.7 billion, an increase of 13 %, but still far from its potential. Russia seeks to diversify partners beyond North Africa and balance the trade balance.

Tatiana Dovgalenko, Head of the Africa Partnership Department, underlines in a recent interview for TV Brics the continent's attractiveness for investors: young population, rapid population growth and economies that are among the fastest growing in the world. This opens up opportunities in energy, infrastructure, mining, digitalisation and space.

On the climate front, Russia proposes to combine industrialisation and clean energy, supporting solar, nuclear and natural gas projects, as well as training technical personnel. The aim is to boost development without compromising environmental protection.
