Sphinx Airport will welcome visitors to the Grand Egyptian Museum from November.

Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly yesterday toured the Sphinx airport facilities to check their state of readiness for the grand opening of the Egyptian Museum (GEM), scheduled for 1 November 2025. He expressed confidence that everything is ready to serve both visitors and official delegations.

Madbouly highlighted the airport's location as a key point connecting the west of Cairo with the Pyramids plateau and the GEM. During his visit, he supervised border hangars, baggage halls, arrival and departure halls, as well as the VIP area, and appreciated the fluidity of the airport's operational spaces.

Approximately 12 kilometres from the museum, the airport has expanded its capacity to accommodate 1.2 million passengers per year. New road access links it directly to roads to Alexandria, Fayum and the North Coast, which will facilitate tourist travel and avoid bottlenecks.

According to the authorities, the external works are almost complete: approximately 90 % of the lighting has been completed, gardening and landscaping work is being finalised, and the landing aids and perimeter infrastructure systems have been thoroughly checked.

Madbouly urged continuous monitoring in the days leading up to the event to ensure that all services are running smoothly; he also stressed the importance of convenience, speedy procedures and attention to detail in areas such as customs, check-in counters and security checks.

With these improvements, Egypt seeks not only to celebrate a monumental opening, but also to consolidate Sphinx Airport as a modern and efficient gateway for cultural tourism, capable of reflecting the heritage magnitude of the GEM.
