South Africa will use its presidency of the G20 to promote investment in infrastructure and manufacturing in Africa, with the aim of strengthening its integration into global trade. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition Andrew Whitfield, according to BRICS TV partner ENA.
Whitfield stressed that the G20 working group's priorities will focus on four key areas:
- Trade and inclusive growth.
- An adaptive trade agenda in the face of global challenges.
- Green industrialisation.
- Reform of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
"Africa is poised to be the next frontier of global growth. With its abundant natural resources and the world's youngest population, it offers immense potential," he said.
The meeting was attended by representatives of G20 member countries and guests, as well as international organisations such as the WTO and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
South Africa assumed the presidency of the G20 on 1 December 2024 and will host the leaders' summit in November 2025.
