The Moroccan government on Thursday signed an agreement with Chinese textile manufacturer Sunrise to build two plants at a total cost of 2.3 billion dirhams (219 million euros).

According to a Moroccan government statement, the two plants will be built in Sjirat, on the outskirts of Rabat, and Fez, in the centre of the country.

The Moroccan government adds that this project will contribute to "strengthen the competitiveness of the sector in our country and consolidate the Kingdom's position as a regional leader in the textile sector".

The same source says that the new project will help create 7,000 direct jobs and 1,500 indirect jobs.
