Foreign Minister Brazil seeks alliances in Africa

Brazil's foreign minister, Mauro Vieira, met with Senegal's president, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, to strengthen bilateral ties, as part of his tour of Africa. He also spoke with his Senegalese counterpart, Yassine Fall, about trade opportunities and cooperation in sectors such as agriculture, science and culture.

During his tour, Vieira visited Nigeria, Cape Verde, Benin and soon Côte d'Ivoire, addressing issues such as trade, maritime and air connections, and cooperation in education and agriculture. He also conveyed President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's invitation to his Nigerian counterpart, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to visit Brazil.

According to the Brazilian Foreign Ministry, Africa, with 1.5 billion inhabitants, represents a key region for diversifying partnerships with Brazil. Bilateral trade with the countries visited by Vieira reached 3.17 billion dollars in 2024.
