Kenyan Foreign Minister Musalia Mudavadi has expressed his country's commitment to strengthening cooperation with the United States to resolve conflicts in Africa and promote economic recovery to US President Donald Trump's senior adviser for Africa, Massad Boulos.
During their meeting in Nairobi, Mudavadi highlighted Kenya's role as a regional leader in peace and stability, and expressed interest in working together to address conflicts in the Great Lakes region, the Horn of Africa and eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). He also underlined the six-decade-long ties between the two countries in areas such as trade, education, security and humanitarian aid.
Boulos arrived in Kenya after visiting the DRC, where he met with President Felix Tshisekedi. The two agreed to promote US investment in the Congolese mining sector and to discuss solutions to the conflict in the east of the country, especially with regard to the Rwandan-backed M23 rebel group. According to the United Nations and several Western governments, the group has caused a severe humanitarian crisis with more than 1.2 million displaced and thousands killed since it resumed attacks in 2021.
The US adviser stressed that there can be no economic development without security, and reaffirmed Washington's commitment to stability in the region.
