The NGDO Canarias con Mozambique has presented its 2026 solidarity calendar, dedicated to the African continent and featuring works by the drawing and painting students of the Universidad Popular de Agüimes. The initiative, which combines art and solidarity, seeks to raise funds for projects for access to water, childhood, health and promotion of women in Mozambican communities.
The organisation, distinguished in January with the Espiga de Oro (Golden Spike) of the Town Council of Agüimes, has as its priority to guarantee drinking water in rural areas of Mozambique. Its actions are developed in collaboration with missionaries and local agents, which ensures that the aid reaches the most vulnerable communities directly.
The president of the organisation, Leonor Hernández, stressed that the calendar is also a tribute to all the people who support the project. "Art has built a bridge of solidarity between our island and the Mozambican communities," she said during the presentation.
The recognition was extended to creators and collaborators who lent their talents to the cause in 2024. Among them were the writer Loli Martel, the singer-songwriter José Artiles, the timplist Germán López, the musical group Susa Suárez, the photographer Rubens Oliva and numerous craftsmen and craftswomen.
Each page of the calendar reflects the vision of the students of the Universidad Popular de Agüimes, inspired by the cultural and landscape richness of Africa. The works show a fusion of styles that seek to raise public awareness of the reality of the continent.
The calendar is now available through the NGDO's volunteer network. The proceeds will contribute to support development projects in Mozambique, strengthening the link between Canarian solidarity and African communities struggling for a dignified future.
