The Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Amina J. Mohammed, visited the Cape Verde Technology Park on Monday, as part of her official tour of the country. During the tour, she held a meeting with young entrepreneurs from the digital ecosystem of the archipelago, whom she encouraged to take advantage of the opportunities in the African market.
Mohammed underlined the "enormous potential" that the region offers in terms of innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship, highlighting the need to strengthen investment in local technology. The UN's number two was accompanied by Cape Verde's deputy prime minister, Olavo Correia, who highlighted the strategic role of the park as a driver of economic development.
Both agreed on the importance of promoting sustainable digital ecosystems, capable of generating skilled employment and fostering youth talent in West Africa. The visit reinforces the institutional support of the United Nations to the continent's technology initiatives, in a context of increasing digitisation and economic transformation.
