Benin became one of the great revelations of the Osaka World Expo by winning the Trophée d'Or in the “Exhibition and Design” category. The award, given by the exhibition's international committee, recognises the Benin pavilion's creativity, thematic coherence and capacity for innovation.
Under the concept “Benin Horizons: A Journey of Culture and Opportunities”, the national space offered an immersive experience that combined art, technology and historical narrative. Visitors were able to follow a sensory itinerary that showed how the country's cultural heritage is transformed into an engine for development and global dialogue.
The project was coordinated by Bénin Tourisme, with the support of the ministries of tourism, economy and foreign affairs. Its aim was to project a renewed image of the African country: modern, open to the world and proud of its roots. The proposal stood out for its integration of digital resources, sustainable design and a narrative that united tradition and innovation.
During the six months of the exhibition, the Benin pavilion attracted thousands of visitors and international media, establishing itself as one of the most acclaimed pavilions on the site. The space served as a cultural embassy and a platform to promote investment and cooperation opportunities in sectors such as tourism, handicrafts and the creative economy.
Winning the Trophée d'Or is a milestone for the country and a symbol of African cultural dynamism in the 21st century. With this distinction, Benin strengthens its presence on the international map and demonstrates that cultural diplomacy can also be an effective strategy for development and global projection.
