El acuerdo con Canalink ha permitido acelerar el desarrollo científico, educativo y tecnológico de Mauritania
The agreement with Canalink has made it possible to accelerate Mauritania's scientific, educational and technological development.

Canalink, a company dependent on the Cabildo de Tenerife through the Instituto Tecnológico de Energías Renovables (ITER), has renewed its contract with the University of Nouakchott Al Assriya, Mauritania, thus strengthening the academic and scientific link between Africa and Europe.

The agreement, in force since 2020, has enabled the Mauritanian university to connect to RedIRIS, the Spanish academic and research network, which in turn is part of GÉANT, the pan-European network that interconnects national education and research networks. This connection has been key to boosting the country's scientific, educational and technological development.

"The strengthening of connections between the scientific community in Mauritania and Europe has had a very positive impact on its education system," stressed Juan José Martínez, island councillor for Innovation, Research and Development. Martínez also underlined the strategic role of the Canary Islands as a bridge between continents and as an international knowledge node.

Among the most notable developments is the construction of new faculties at the University of Nouakchott Al Assriya, which will improve educational and research opportunities for a population of more than five million people. In addition, the recent establishment of the Nouakchott Business School - the country's first English-language public university led by a woman, Dr Fatma Bnejara - reflects the country's increasing openness to internationalisation.

Rubén Molowny, CEO of Canalink, valued this agreement as a sign of the company's commitment to connectivity as a driver of innovation. "This alliance contributes to the creation of a knowledge ecosystem that opens the doors to high-level international collaborations", he concluded.
