Proexca delegate in Africa, at the Mauritania-Spain Business Forum.
The Mauritanian capital, Nouakchott, hosted this week the Mauritania-Spain Business Forum, a key meeting in the framework of the first High Level Meeting between the two countries. Organised by the Spanish Chamber of Commerce, ICEX and CEOE, the forum brought together institutional and business representatives with the aim of strengthening economic ties and exploring new investment opportunities in West Africa.
The Spanish delegation was made up of more than 60 companies, with a particularly strong presence of companies from the Canary Islands. The islands, traditionally active in the projection towards the African continent, were the largest regional representation of the country. The President of the Canary Islands Government, Fernando Clavijo, accompanied the businessmen in various bilateral meetings and meetings with local authorities.
Mauritania is emerging as a strategic partner for Spain in key sectors such as fisheries, agriculture, water treatment, renewable energy and port logistics. The country seeks to diversify its economy and attract foreign investment, offering an environment of growing stability for the development of medium- and long-term projects.
During the forum, financial support of up to 200 million euros from the Spanish government was announced, aimed at promoting business initiatives in Mauritanian territory. This line of credit seeks to facilitate the internationalisation of Spanish companies and foster bilateral cooperation in areas of common interest.
In addition, both delegations agreed to set up sectoral working groups in areas such as maritime and air transport, health, fisheries and technical cooperation. These commissions will make it possible to establish follow-up and coordination mechanisms to ensure the viability of the agreements reached.
The meeting was viewed positively by both parties, who agreed on the need to intensify economic collaboration. For the Canary Islands, the forum reinforces its role as a privileged logistical and business platform between Europe and Africa, consolidating its vocation as a strategic bridge in the Atlantic.
