The Equatoguinean singer and multi-instrumentalist Nélida Karr will receive support from Casa África to equip her Mosart Music School in Equatorial Guinea with instruments.
Founder of the NGO Mosart, Karr combines music, sound waves and the arts in a project that seeks to transform the lives of young people through creativity. Her international career includes tours to four continents and the Vis a Vis award from Casa África in 2018.
Mosart Music School is a non-profit initiative that offers children and teenagers artistic learning spaces. The proposal fosters creative skills, takes young people away from the streets and promotes values such as empathy and open-mindedness.
In Equatorial Guinea, there is no official educational plan that provides for creative musical training. Nor are there specialised schools that allow young people to access artistic studies in a structured way.
Self-taught in his career, Karr has set up this school, which already works with young people in the country, but needs more tools to strengthen its work. Casa África will be collecting donations of new or used material at its headquarters from Monday to Friday, between 8:00 and 18:30.
Casa África's collaboration consists of collecting instruments. Anyone who wants to donate them, new or used, can do so by handing them in between 08:00 and 18:30 from Monday to Friday, at calle Alfonso XIII number 5, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, headquarters of the institution.
The Spanish Cultural Centres in Malabo and Bata are also collaborating in this initiative. All proceeds will be sent directly to the Mosart Music School to further its educational mission.
