This Thursday, the Plaza de La Feria in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria was the scene of an emotional rally called by the Federation of African Associations in the Canary Islands and the Association of African and Afro-descendant Women in the Canary Islands, in condemnation of the death of the young Gambian Abdoulie Bah, shot by the National Police at Gando airport.
Under the slogan "Justice for Abdoulie Bah", dozens of people from the African and Afro-descendant community and the general public gathered to denounce police violence and structural racism. The president of @mujeresafroencanarias, Laura Yasmine Balde Ejjar, read an emotional manifesto that was followed by shouts of "justice" and heartfelt applause.
For an hour, the square was filled with voices, tears, prayers and a unanimous demand: Justice. Truth. Reparation.
Here we share some moments of this day of dignity and memory.
