Google has introduced a new artificial intelligence-based search function in Africa that promises to transform the way people interact with information on the internet.
The so-called AI mode uses an adapted version of the Gemini 2.5 model to answer complex questions with a single answer that interprets the user's intention.
Available in a dedicated tab within Google Search and in the mobile app for Android and iOS, this tool is particularly useful for exploratory queries.
The function allows a question to be broken down into multiple subtopics and launch simultaneous queries to the network, providing more complete and relevant answers than conventional searches.
In addition, it incorporates a multimodal approach: users can make queries using text, voice or images, accessing content from a variety of sources with links highlighted in each result.
