Nairobi experienced a historic event for its electronic music scene this Saturday. British actor and producer Idris Elba officially presented his Sound International label at the MUZE club, a project that aims to unite sounds and talents from all over the world.
The evening, which attracted hundreds of house music fans, featured a line-up that combined international acts and local artists. Afro-house duo Afrokillerz headlined the night with a set that fused African percussion and contemporary electronic bases.
One of the most anticipated moments was the live premiere of Maithori, an unreleased track on which Elba collaborates with NITEFREAK, Frigid Armadillo and Kenyan singer Nes Mburu. The launch in Nairobi was the first live performance of the piece.
Sound International, founded in 2024 and inspired by the legendary sound system of a relative of the artist in London in the eighties, is thus consolidating itself as a label with a global vocation. Its mission: to sign and disseminate house music from different cultures and countries.
Elba framed this performance as part of the #DanceDifferent party series, an initiative that will tour several cities around the world to celebrate diversity and cultural connection through dance music.
The choice of Nairobi, according to organisers and audiences, underlines the international projection of the vibrant Kenyan electronic scene and its growing influence on the global scene.
