West Africa is going through a period of important political and social transformations. The exit of Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso from ECOWAS reflects a change of course in the region, which is also facing common challenges such as the advance of jihadism and migratory flows. This context calls for multilateral responses and offers Europe, and Spain in particular, the opportunity to strengthen its role as a strategic partner.
