Zanzibar Airport Authority CEO Seif Abdallah Juma stressed the importance of the aviation sector in Tanzania's economic development, warning that any hindrance in this area could significantly affect the country's progress.
His remarks came during a fundraising event organised by Puma Energy Tanzania on 30 March 2025 in Unguja (the largest of the islands that make up the Zanzibar archipelago), with the aim of highlighting the role of aviation in national revenue generation.
Juma noted the remarkable growth of the sector, mentioning that in February 2025, a total of 82,750 visitors arrived on the islands, of which 75,548 (91.3 %) entered through Abeid Amani Karume International Airport.
"Aviation is not only crucial for tourism, but also for related sectors. Any challenge in this area could have a ripple effect on the national economy," he said.
He also highlighted the work of the Zanzibar Airport Authority in coordination with the Zanzibar Utilities Regulatory Authority (URA) to ensure that the airport's infrastructure and fuel standards meet international standards.
Juma commended Puma Energy Tanzania for its commitment to the sector, especially in the provision of services at Abeid Amani Karume Airport, ensuring the stability of the sector even in the face of aircraft incidents.
For her part, Puma Energy Tanzania CEO Fatma Abdallah reaffirmed the company's commitment to reinvesting in the community. She highlighted its partnership with Karume Institute of Technology (KIST), where every year five students are trained in aviation-related roles, some of whom have gone on to secure employment at national and international airports.
In addition, Puma Energy has made significant contributions to Kisiwandui School, including renovations and the creation of facilities for students with special needs.
The event underlined the growing importance of the aviation sector in Tanzania's economic future, with continued investment from both the government and the private sector, driving sustainable development.
