Queen Letizia has concluded her official visit to Cape Verde, where she visited Spanish cooperation projects focused on gender equality, the reduction of inequalities and economic development. During her stay, she visited a sewing course for women in vulnerable situations, shelters, local markets and a school with a food distribution programme.

Accompanied by the First Lady of Cape Verde, Débora Katisa Carvalho, she visited the Fazenda Esperança therapeutic community, dedicated to the rehabilitation of men with drug addiction problems and with plans for expansion for women. The two also met at the presidential palace to analyse Spanish cooperation in the country since 1999, addressing issues such as childhood and breast and colon cancer, the main causes of female mortality in Cape Verde.

The Queen also visited projects led by Spanish nuns against human trafficking and gender violence, focusing on the reintegration of women at risk into the labour market and psychosocial care.

This trip, the Queen's tenth cooperation trip and her fourth to Africa, reaffirms Spain's commitment to Cape Verde's development in key areas such as equality and economic sustainability.
