The capitals of Kenya and Ethiopia, brought together by Abyssinia Luxury Coaches.

Abyssinia Luxury Coaches has launched a daily long-distance coach service linking the capitals of Kenya and Ethiopia. It is the first regular luxury coach connection between Nairobi and Addis Ababa, a journey of more than 1,500 kilometres through the Moyale corridor.

A single ticket costs 7,500 Kenyan shillings, while a return trip costs 15,000. In Ethiopian currency, the price is around 16,000 birr. The company offers Daewoo sleeper coaches, equipped with reclining seats and long-distance capacity.

The route crosses the border at Moyale and stops at Yabelo, Bule Hora, Dilla and Hawassa before arriving at the destination. The entire route combines day and night legs, making it a competitive option compared to air transport.

The launch strengthens regional connectivity while offering a cheaper and more scenic alternative to air travel for both local travellers and tourists interested in discovering the landscapes of the Horn of Africa.

However, doubts remain about the administrative validity of the project. The Ethiopian Ministry of Transport has pointed out that it was not officially informed of the start of the service and recalls that any cross-border operation should have a bilateral agreement.

Pending clarification of these regulatory aspects, Abyssinia Luxury Coaches is already operating normally and is presenting itself as an actor ready to invigorate human and commercial exchanges between two key East African economies.
