The foreign ministers of Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger will visit Moscow from 3 to 4 April at the invitation of their Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov. The meeting is part of joint efforts to consolidate strategic and dynamic cooperation between the newly created Sahel Union and Russia.
According to Business Insider Africa, the meeting seeks to strengthen partnerships in areas of common interest, especially after the three countries' exit from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). The Sahel Union is now aiming for regional self-sufficiency and building relations with non-Western powers.
