A delegation from the Mauritanian Ministry of Health visited the main university hospitals in Gran Canaria this week to explore new avenues of cooperation in hospital management and professional training.
The group toured key facilities of the Materno Infantil and Doctor Negrín hospitals, taking an interest in specialised services such as maternity, gynaecological emergencies, cardiology, nephrology, transplants and oncology. They also visited the intensive care units and the recently inaugurated blood donation room.
The visit followed an institutional meeting at the government headquarters in Las Palmas, where joint projects and strategies to strengthen health systems in Mauritania were discussed.
The Canary Islands maintains cooperation programmes with the African country focused on disease prevention, mother and child nutrition, health equipment and the development of professional competencies in public health.
To date, 24 Mauritanian professionals have participated in training programmes in the Canary Islands, broadening their skills and strengthening technical collaboration between the two territories.
The delegation concluded the visit by highlighting the value of knowledge sharing and the importance of strengthening hospital cooperation to improve healthcare in Mauritania.
