From Morocco to South Africa, the African continent offers a diverse and vibrant music festival scene that celebrates culture, rhythm and diversity. While events such as Tomorrowland and Coachella dominate the international scene, Africa has established itself as an epicentre of sonic innovation and creativity. Here are ten festivals not to be missed:

  1. Cape Town International Jazz Festival (South Africa)
    The largest jazz festival in Africa and the fourth largest in the world, featuring local and international artists. It will be held on 25-26 April at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.
  2. Mawazine (Morocco)
    Known as "Rhythms of the World", this event in Rabat brings together more than two million people with a diverse programme that includes pop, rock, hip hop and Arabic music. It will be held from 20 to 28 June 2025.
  3. Essaouira Gnaoua Festival (Morocco)
    Event fusing Gnawa music with jazz, reggae and other genres in the coastal city of Essaouira, a World Heritage Site. It will be held from 19 to 21 June 2025.
  4. Rocking the Daisies (South Africa)
    Indie, rock and electronic music festival at Cloof Wine Estate. It stands out for its ecological commitment and has featured artists such as Major Lazer and Foster the People. It will take place from 2 to 5 October 2025.
  5. Afrofuture (Ghana)
    Formerly called Afrochella, this event in Accra celebrates Afrobeats, hip hop and dancehall, with a focus on African fashion, art and culture. It will take place on 28 and 29 December 2025.
  6. Sauti za Busara (Zanzibar, Tanzania)
    African music festival in historic Stone Town, featuring genres such as bongo flava, reggae and traditional music. The 2025 edition was held from 14-16 February.
  7. Felabration (Nigeria)
    Tribute to Fela Kuti, pioneer of Afrobeat. Founded in 1998, it is a space for music and debate on culture and politics. It will be held from 13 to 19 October 2025.
  8. Nyege Nyege (Uganda)
    Experimental music festival in Jinja, Uganda, noted for its inclusivity and freedom of expression. Dates for 2025 are yet to be confirmed.
  9. MTN Bushfire (Esuatini)
    Event that fuses music, art and social activism, promoting sustainability. It will be held from 30 May to 1 June 2025.
  10. Lake of Stars (Malawi)
    Electronic and pop festival on the shores of Lake Malawi, with a programme that includes dance, theatre and film. It will take place from 17 to 19 October 2025.

These festivals not only offer an unforgettable musical experience, but also reflect the cultural and creative richness of the African continent.
