Puerto de la Cruz is preparing to become a meeting point for reality cinema from 22 to 29 November, with the arrival of Miradas Afroindígenas, an international festival and market that brings together creators from Africa, Latin America and the Canary Islands.
The festival, directed by Tenerife-born David Baute, was born five years ago as an incubator for audiovisual projects between the Dominican Republic and Tenerife. Today it is a consolidated space where screenings, workshops and market opportunities converge, promoting committed and creative filmmaking.
Among the most eagerly awaited premieres is Historia del buen valle, the new work by José Luis Guerín, while the «Narrativa Personal» section pays tribute to the Chilean filmmaker Maite Alberdi, an author recognised at international festivals and Goya awards.
The screenings will take place in the Sala Timanfaya and the market in the Complejo Turístico Costa Martiánez. In addition, participants will be able to attend workshops and mentoring sessions for projects in different stages of production, with the aim of accompanying their journey to future screenings.
The Afro-Indigenous Visions Market is organised in two phases: one for projects in development and the other for more advanced productions under the RealDos programme, reinforcing the festival's mission to generate new opportunities for emerging filmmakers.
This year's edition also stands out for its graphic image, inspired by César Manrique's sculpture Homage to the Sea, which symbolises the connection between Africa and America across the Atlantic. The local and regional institutions support the initiative, underlining its capacity to reinforce the cultural offer of the Canary Islands and to project the archipelago as a creative bridge between continents.
