Iñaki and Nico Williams have transformed their family story into a story of overcoming that moves Ghana. Sons of parents who crossed the Sahara in search of a future, today their example transcends football and connects with thousands of young people who dream of changing their destiny.
The eldest, Iñaki, decided to represent the Ghanaian national team in 2022, paying homage to the sacrifice of his parents and strengthening ties with the land that saw them leave. Nico, on the other hand, defends the Spain shirt, showing that identity can be plural and enriching.
The two men promoted the rehabilitation of the LEAD International School in Pokuase, on the outskirts of Accra. The project included improvements to the classrooms, scholarships for underprivileged families and the provision of school and sports equipment to hundreds of children.
The initiative already benefits more than half a thousand students and has received recognition from social and sporting entities. Football tournaments, Athletic uniforms and support programmes complete the transformation of the educational centre into a space of hope.
Their story is also told in the documentary Los Williams, which portrays their parents' migratory journey and the rise of both brothers to professional football. The film addresses issues such as racism, roots and cultural integration through an intimate lens.
Beyond the stadiums, the Williams embody a narrative of resilience and belonging. Their example resonates in Ghana as proof that dreams, with hard work and education, can break down any boundaries.
