The government of Senegal has taken a decisive step to modernise its national airline. Air Transport Minister Yankoba Diémé visited Seattle to advance a strategic agreement with Boeing.
The meeting at the US manufacturer's headquarters aims to revive Air Sénégal and position it as a benchmark in West Africa. The plan includes the incorporation of new-generation aircraft and specialised training for pilots and technicians.
The move follows president Bassirou Diomaye Faye's meeting with senior Boeing executives in the United States in early July. Both sides agreed on the need to strengthen competitiveness and expand the airline's international network.
According to Diémé, the project is not only aimed at renewing the fleet. It also aims to create skilled jobs and boost the national aeronautical ecosystem, which is key to the country's economic development.
Air Sénégal had already had contacts with Boeing last April in Dakar. The way was paved for an agreement that is now entering a decisive phase. The government hopes that the company will be able to operate more destinations and become a key player in the region.
With this strategy, Senegal aims to become an air hub for the continent and improve its global interconnection, both for passengers and freight.
