The Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, has announced in Madrid the launch of the Spain-Africa Foundation, an entity aimed at strengthening relations between the two continents. The project, conceived as a private foundation with public participation, becomes one of the pillars of the Spain-Africa Strategy 2025-2028, the plan with which the Government aims to consolidate a deeper and more lasting cooperation with the neighbouring continent.

During the presentation, Albares stressed that the initiative stems from the conviction that the future of Spain and Africa is intertwined. The Foundation aspires to be a stable meeting place for institutions, companies, universities and social organisations, with the aim of strengthening the human, cultural and economic ties that unite both shores.

The new organisation will promote exchange programmes, training scholarships and forums for dialogue on innovation, sustainability, energy and culture, with special attention to the participation of young people and women. It will also pay special attention to the Afro-diaspora and Afro-descendant communities, both in Spain and Latin America, recognising their role as a natural bridge between continents.

The Board of Trustees will be made up of representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Casa África, the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and companies such as GB Foods and AEE Power. Prestigious African figures such as Maman Sidikou, former minister of Niger, and Suzi Barbosa, former minister of Guinea-Bissau, will also participate, reflecting the vocation of real cooperation that inspires the Foundation.

With this initiative, the government seeks to give tangible impetus to its strategy towards Africa, based on collaboration, mutual respect and global co-responsibility. The Spain-Africa Foundation is thus presented as a permanent platform for building alliances, sharing knowledge and projecting a modern and balanced relationship between Spain and the African continent.
