Tanzanian Foreign Minister Mahmoud Thabit Kombo recently highlighted China's economic and social transformation and reaffirmed his country's commitment to strengthening bilateral ties. Speaking at an event in Dar es Salaam to mark the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, Kombo underlined Tanzania's admiration for the Chinese development model and its support for the one-China policy.

The foreign minister described the anniversary as an opportunity to recognise the trajectory of a country that has managed to combine innovation, growth and stability. In his speech, he valued China's role as a driving force in the world economy and as an example of strategic planning geared towards collective well-being.

Kombo also highlighted the cooperation between Beijing and Dodoma in international organisations, especially in the United Nations, where both countries have common positions in favour of a more equitable global order. The bilateral relationship, he said, is based on mutual respect and a shared vision of sustainable development.

For her part, the Chinese ambassador to Tanzania, Chen Mingjian, recalled the historical journey of the Communist Party of China, which, she said, has guided the country from reconstruction to modernisation. He stressed that the economic progress of the last decades has consolidated China's role as a key partner of the African continent.

Chen noted that China has been Africa's largest trading partner for sixteen consecutive years, with a record $295.6 billion in trade in 2024. In the case of Tanzania, bilateral trade reached $8.88 billion last year. He also mentioned the recent elimination of tariffs on products from 53 African countries, a move that will strengthen economic integration and open up new opportunities for African exports.

The diplomat concluded that cooperation between China and Tanzania continues to deepen, generating concrete benefits for both nations and consolidating a relationship that she considers a model of South-South partnership.
