On Saturday 24th May, Casa África's courtyard was transformed into a lively outdoor restaurant with an African flavour, thanks to a new edition of the African Gastronomic Corner. Organised by Casa África, the Group of African Women Chefs and the Federation of African Associations in the Canary Islands (FAAC), the event offered a sample of the rich and diverse cuisine of the continent, with the help of outstanding chefs: María do Pilar Idjabe (Equatorial Guinea), Bouchra El Aouni (Morocco), Pat Inneh (Nigeria), Nicole Sánchez Tavarez (Senegal) and Ramatu Marion Williams Taylor (Sierra Leone). Attendees were able to enjoy typical tapas in the courtyard or take them home thanks to a take-away food service, all of which was accompanied by the music of an African DJ.
This event is part of the commemoration of Africa Day, which is celebrated every 25th May in memory of the creation, in 1963, of the Organisation of African Unity, today known as the African Union, which brings together the 55 states of the continent. Casa África celebrates this event with a programme of cultural activities that includes exhibitions, workshops, gastronomy, fashion, music, sport and conferences. The FAAC, the Association of African Women in the Canary Islands (AMAC), the Elder Museum of Science and Technology and the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) and the company Binter are collaborating.
