Cooperaiva Khessani, a pioneering project that combines environmental conservation, economics and gender equality.

In Inhambane Bay, Mozambique, the Khessani Cooperative is promoting a pioneering project that combines environmental conservation, economic development and gender equity. Under the leadership of the Women for Africa Foundation, in collaboration with Duna Lodge and with the financial backing of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), this initiative is committed to sustainable aquaculture as a tool for local progress.

The programme improves food security in the Jangamo district, empowers women economically and promotes a model of environmentally friendly tourism. The protection of mangroves thus becomes an axis of social and ecological transformation, with an approach that can be replicated in other coastal regions thanks to the leading role of local communities and, in particular, of women.
